This page is being developed to help share out about the community & youth gardening projects within the Red Cedar River Watershed. Included here will be an interactive map that is hotlinked to more specific information about each project site.

If you are working on a gardening project, please contact Tracey Mofle @ tracey.mofle@uwc.edu with your details, so we can help to celebrate all the wonderful work that is being done across our regional community.

On-going projects

The Paying It Forward Project - Engaging Students in Sustainable Community Development - see http://www.rivercountryrcd.org/Pay%20it%20Forward.html; The Paying It Forwarward Project is a local food system development initiative sponsored by The Northwest Wisconsin Regional Food Network (NWRFN) and some of its supporting organizations and partners. Students from schools, youth groups, 4H and other clubs and organizations participate in community and school garden projects that provide them with learning, community service and entrepreneurial experiences. At least a third of the fresh, nutritious and organically grown produce from the gardens is donated to food pantries and other programs that serve the low income community. At least a third to a half of the produce is available through a CSA, farmers markets/stands, fundraisers, or the Six Rivers Cooperative. Students are welcome to use and preserve the rest of the produce in training workshops and other outreach activities, such as regional hunger banquets for area youth groups.

Paying It Forward garden sites include a 1/2 acre site in Brill, a raised bed area at Hilltop Elementary, raised beds at Rice Lake High School, and a developing 2-acre site & raised beds area in Barron.
