Create a Sustainable Food and/or Energy System Vision, Concept, Demonstration for Your Local Community

1st place teams - $350 2nd place teams - $250 3rd place teams - $150



** State Senator Bob Jauch and other community leaders will be on campus to help with the judging of your posters, presentations & demonstrations -- stay tuned in for the final 10am-2pm agenda.

10am - Set up
10:15 - Welcome - Mary Hubler, Bob Jauch, Paul Chase
10:30-11:30 - Judging & mini-presentations
11:30-12 - Tour UW-Barron County
12-1 - Local food lunch & keynote - Peter Henry, Sustainable Amery
1-2 - Awards

HOW TO PARTICIPATE


· Visit www.myfootprint.org and take the Ecological Footprint Quiz - you are encouraged to post your reaction to the quiz within the Ecological Footprinting discussion area - see http://redcedarsustain.wetpaint.com/thread/2560676/Ecological+Footprinting+-+see+www.myfootprint.org

· Develop a team of 2-4 middle, high school, college students & choose a name for your team

· Sign up for this free contest by sending an email to tracey.mofle@uwc.edu with the name of your team, the name of your school and/or organization, and phone and email contact info for each team member. If you are a middle or high school team of students, please include an adult contact

· Look into The Natural Step framework, and the Eco-Municipality movement by going to the LINKS section of this wiki and visit many other websites.

Begin to develop concepts and presentation ideas.

· Help develop a list of resources on local/sustainable food and energy system development – your team could post a link on this wiki to at least 1 new web-based resource for others to enjoy

· Find local community experts/mentors who can assist you in the development of your sustainable food or energy system vision for your community. If you need help w/finding a mentor, contact your teacher/professor.

April 6-20 - more suggestions on how to prepare for April 20th:

· Develop an outline of your community vision for a sustainable food and/or energy system and share it with your advisors/mentors, then w/Tracey Mofle @ tracey.mofle@uwc.edu by April 10th

· Begin developing your poster/display board, PowerPoint presentation, demonstration, drawing, etc.

· Practice presenting your information to local community members/leaders

· Come to UW-Barron County on Monday, April 20th from 10am-2pm to showcase your community vision, listen to presentations on The Natural Step, organic agriculture and renewable energy, and meet other youth leaders. Prize money will be given out at this time. Local community leaders will be invited to serve as contest judges

· Share your community vision with your local leaders by giving another presentation in your own community in late April

· Post your presentations on this project wiki after April 20th - instructions will be given out on the 20th.

· Winning teams will be highlighted in regional/statewide press release

· Consider entering your presentation/poster into county fairs and/or other contests
